Nestled in the heart of downtown Kansas City, The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is not only one of the oldest cathedrals in the state, but a very modern and present establishment within the community as a whole. Having been at their current location since 1893, the Cathedral received a major architectural renovation in 2008, and with that, came the restructuring of their audio system. Harvest AV Solutions led the audio installation in 2008, and in 2017 they continued to entrust AV Solutions with their technical needs.
The Cathedral is an architecturally intricate space with natural acoustics that favor music, but not necessarily verbal communication. The d&b audiotechnik system was the best solution to amplify and clarify speech. “The spoken word is just as important as what is sung, it is the word of God.” says Dr. Pearson. That being said, The speakers had to also be small and blend into the historic architecture. Originally colored white, AV solutions painted the speakers beige to better blend into the columns they are hung from.
The system includes two new d&b audiotechnik 24C and 16C column loudspeakers, in addition to a d&b audiotechnik 10b amplifier. “The speakers we have now are versions of what I saw when I went to Germany and toured cathedrals twice the size of this one.” says Dr. Pearson.
The parish community was invited to join Cathedral leadership in demonstrations of the different equipment options. “Hearing the demo, the before and after results were like night and day difference.” says Dr. Pearson.
The Cathedral is able to continue to impact the community within the faith and beyond, and now has confidence they can be heard by all who enter.
"I always recommend Harvest. All the factors fall into place because we have trust."
